Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time genetic counselor to join our growing team of scientists and genetic counselors whose mission is to empower people to use genomic information to optimize their health. This is a multi-faceted role, with opportunities to provide direct patient care through counseling for whole genome sequencing, support laboratory operations, provide patient and physician education, as well as to support multiple departments across the organization.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide tele-genetic counseling to clients who have undergone whole genome sequencing or targeted panel screening.
  • Translate educational material, consents and reports into other languages, if applicable.
  • Collaborate with scientific and clinical teams to provide state-of-the art interpretation of sequence variants and contribute to report writing.
  • Collaborate on team projects including video education, webinars and research.
  • Provide support to business development, marketing and design teams.
  • Act as medical science liaison with global partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited ABGC training program
  • ABGC board certified with a minimum of two years of genetic counseling experience.
  • Experience in laboratory genetic counseling is a plus
  • A background in cancer genetics and/or cardiovascular genetics is desirable.
  • Experience with whole genome sequencing and telemedicine is a plus, but willing train the right candidate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to clearly explain complex medical information in verbal and written form.
  • Fluency in one or more languages other than English is a plus.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a matrixed team.

Human Resources Manager

Role Description

Veritas is looking for a dynamic and customer focused HR Generalist to support a broad range of HR functions. This may include employee relations, recruitment, compensation, organizational development and HR compliance. This would be the first HR position we have here at the Danvers location, so the ideal candidate is someone who is ready to hit the ground running!

  • Evaluate and develop human resource initiatives that support and are aligned with company goals.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate policies, programs, and practices.
  • Provide proactive HR support, guidance, counsel and strategic input to maximize the effectiveness of the businesses within Veritas.

Requirements:

Informatics scientist

Role Description & Requirements

We are seeking an Informatics Scientist to help develop and manage the data analysis pipeline for our CLIA laboratory in Danvers, MA. We value motivation, team fit, attention to detail as well as excellent organizational and communication skills. You are energetic, hardworking, and willing to do many different tasks from day to day. You keep your eye on the ball and finish what you start, all the while juggling multiple priorities.

This person will be an essential part of our Bioinformatics department, starting with the management of our data analysis pipeline. Analysis pipeline management includes development of new techniques for processing data as well as ensuring correct operation of the production pipeline.

  • Knowledge of programming, Linux command line, and some basic computer hardware repair skills are essential.
  • Clear written and verbal communication is essential for interfacing with other departments. Most, if not all, work will be performed on site.
  • PhD in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, statistics or similar or Master’s Degree with 5+ years of experience in similar fields. Previous experience in one or more fields of heritable disease biology is critical for success.
  • Must be able to program in Python, Perl, or equivalent. Experience in R, S, S+, Matlab or other statistical language is also required. Command line (bash, csh, tcsh) interface is a plus as is knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing data analysis and tools (bwa, samtools, gatk, picardtools, etc).

Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist (Molecular Biology)

Primary responsibilities:

  • Performs routine high-complexity testing, quality control, calibration, maintenance and proficiency testing in accordance with current laboratory procedures.
  • Documents all corrective action taken as indicated in established laboratory procedures.
  • Oversees inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies.
  • Documents any problems, issues or information that may be necessary for other testing personnel to be aware of in a Communication Log.
  • Participates in validation of and trains on new procedures
  • Informs senior personnel of any problem or issue that affects the reporting of patient results
  • Communicates effectively and fosters teamwork and mutual respect.
  • Performs routine review of all laboratory procedures and updates procedures.
  • Identifies opportunities for quality and workflow improvements and brings ideas to senior staff.
  • Experience with most or all of the following technologies is preferred:
    • PCR and qPCR
    • Next-generation sequencing library preparation and instrument runs
    • Operation of liquid handling systems
    • Capillary electrophoresis: Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis
    • Integrated laboratory information management systems (LIMS)

Requirements:

  • BS in biological sciences or related field is required. Experience working in a clinical molecular laboratory high preferred. ASCP certification (Molecular Biology) is a bonus, but not a requirement.

Senior Clinical Variant Scientist

Position Overview

We are seeking an individual with a strong background in human genetics or related discipline to join our clinical team. This individual will take on a central role in our variant curation group to assess the clinical significance of genomic variants identified in patient samples. Responsibilities include critical review of published evidence, writing concise summaries for clinical reports and contributing to the management of a large team of curators. Additional responsibilities may include interfacing with the laboratory operations team to assist in technical review of clinical next-generation sequencing results. There is a potential to participate in the Clinical Genome Resource (www.clinicalgenome.org). This is a dynamic position that demands critical thinking, high attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Genomic knowledge curation: Analyzes scientific literature and databases related to genomic sequence variants as well as the validity of gene-disease associations
  • Prepares draft variant classifications and high quality variant summaries for clinical reporting
  • Interfaces with a large team of primary variant curators to streamline operations and provide quality control
  • Participates in developing innovative approaches to scale interpretation services in collaboration with Veritas’ informatics and IT teams
  • Analyzes next generation sequencing data to assign correct variant nomenclature
  • May join the international ClinGen cardiovascular disease expert panel to advance curation standards for cardiovascular variants

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (MD or PhD) in a biological science or other relevant technical or clinical field
  • Expertise in human genetics, particularly in a molecular diagnostic setting is preferred
  • Familiarity with interpreting sequence variants using the ACMG framework as well as key databases and tools
  • Experience in next generation sequencing preferred
  • Basic bioinformatic skills are not required but are considered an asset
