Position Overview

Veritas is seeking a board eligible/certified Clinical Molecular Geneticist or Molecular Pathologist to join our clinical team. This individual will take on a central role in day to day management of the team with key areas including development of a sustainable genomic knowledge management infrastructure and managing regulatory compliance related aspects. Long term goals include developing diagnostic WGS based services. Experience with clinical NGS and ACMG based variant interpretation are a must and additional expertise in bioinformatics is a plus. Veritas supports academic activities including publishing and participation in leading professional bodies such as AMP and ACMG.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with management team to implement and automate best practices for clinical variant curation
  • Sign out of clinical reports as needed and as compatible with other commitments
  • Establish measures to comply with regulatory agencies, including CAP and NY State
  • Interface with Veritas' technical and product development teams

Requirements

  • M.D. or Ph.D. and ABMG certification in Clinical Molecular Genetics or ABMG/ABP certification in Molecular Genetic Pathology. At least 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Significant experience in molecular genetic testing, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies, with knowledge of, and experience with, classifying and interpreting genetic variants
  • Experience with clinical regulatory requirements
  • Basic computational or bioinformatic skills strongly preferred
  • Ability to balance and manage multiple tasks and projects independently in a fast paced, matrixed environment.

Veritas has an exciting new opportunity for a data acquisition intern to assist in expanding our growing data research platform, enabling unprecedented access to genomic data for researchers worldwide. Day to Day Accountabilities and Opportunities:

  • Research, pursue, and import collections of genomic data, both domestic and international, from government, commercial, non-profit, and academic sources.

Role Description & Requirements

We are seeking an Informatics Scientist to help develop and manage the data analysis pipeline for our CLIA laboratory in Danvers, MA. You are energetic, hardworking, and willing to do many different tasks from day to day. You keep your eye on the ball and finish what you start, all the while juggling multiple priorities.

This person will be an essential part of our Bioinformatics department, starting with the management of our data analysis pipeline. Analysis pipeline management includes development of new techniques for processing data as well as ensuring correct operation of the production pipeline.

  • Knowledge of programming, Linux command line, and some basic computer hardware repair skills are essential.
  • Clear written and verbal communication is essential for interfacing with other departments. Most, if not all, work will be performed on site.
  • PhD in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, statistics or similar or Master’s Degree with 5+ years of experience in similar fields. Previous experience in one or more fields of heritable disease biology is critical for success.
  • Must be able to program in Python, Perl, or equivalent. Experience in R, S, S+, Matlab or other statistical language is also required. Command line (bash, csh, tcsh) interface is a plus as is knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing data analysis and tools (bwa, samtools, gatk, picardtools, etc).

Laboratory Manager/Supervisor

Position Overview:

Veritas Genetics has an exciting new opportunity for an NGS Field Application Scientist (FAS). As an FAS, you will be an integral part of our product team, acting as a whole genome sequencing guru, knowing our product offerings inside and out.

Day to Day Accountabilities and Opportunities:

  • Solid command of NGS, especially understanding the benefits of whole genome sequencing, and the ability to convey these benefits to consumers and commercial or research organizations.

Previous Experience and Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of the principles of genomics with a focus on NGS, particularly whole genome sequencing, but also including exomes, RNAseq, targeted panels and bioinformatics.
  • Strong customer relation skills are a must.

Senior Clinical Variant Scientist

Position Overview

We are seeking an individual with a strong background in human genetics or related discipline to join our clinical team. This individual will take on a central role in our variant curation group to assess the clinical significance of genomic variants identified in patient samples. Responsibilities include critical review of published evidence, writing concise summaries for clinical reports and contributing to the management of a large team of curators. Additional responsibilities may include interfacing with the laboratory operations team to assist in technical review of clinical next-generation sequencing results. There is a potential to participate in the Clinical Genome Resource (www.clinicalgenome.org). This is a dynamic position that demands critical thinking, high attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Genomic knowledge curation: Analyzes scientific literature and databases related to genomic sequence variants as well as the validity of gene-disease associations
  • Prepares draft variant classifications and high quality variant summaries for clinical reporting
  • Interfaces with a large team of primary variant curators to streamline operations and provide quality control
  • Participates in developing innovative approaches to scale interpretation services in collaboration with Veritas’ informatics and IT teams
  • Analyzes next generation sequencing data to assign correct variant nomenclature
  • May join the international ClinGen cardiovascular disease expert panel to advance curation standards for cardiovascular variants

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (MD or PhD) in a biological science or other relevant technical or clinical field
  • Expertise in human genetics, particularly in a molecular diagnostic setting is preferred
  • Familiarity with interpreting sequence variants using the ACMG framework as well as key databases and tools
  • Experience in next generation sequencing preferred
  • Basic bioinformatic skills are not required but are considered an asset
